Happenings for the weekend before St. Patrick's Day

Irish eyes are smiling this weekend. And since anyone can celebrate this holiday, we’ll start you off early on the festivities.

Among the highlights: Prepare to become a lean-green-dancing machine at The Knights of Columbus dinner dance in Oakland Gardens. At Donovan’s Grill & Tavern, catch the rocking Celtic revelry of The Sporting Paddies while sampling a menu that includes corned-beef, cabbage, shepherd’s pie and soda bread. 

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance
Where/When: American Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, 79-43 Bell Blvd., Oakland Gardens, on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Why Go: This early St. Patrick’s Day celebration offers a sit-down meal of corned beef and cabbage that will make you cherish Irish culture and fellowship. Come for the food and stay for the dancing afterward. It is hosted by The Knights of Columbus.
Pricing: $15 for Adults; $7 for kids age 7-12; kids under 6 eat free

Rocking with The Sporting Paddies at Donovan’s Grill & Tavern
Where/When: 214-16 41st Ave., Bayside, on Sunday at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Why Go: This night of traditional Irish fare and Celtic music will be the highlight of your weekend. Consider this a dry run for St. Patrick’s Day when bagpipers make surprise appearances at the tavern.
Pricing: No cover


Where/When: The Colden Auditorium, 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Flushing, on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Why Go: Watch Eder in concert with a 7-piece band as she belts out her famed hits and cover songs. The soloist takes on almost every genre including pop and country. Her high-energy performance will remind you why she’s still a longtime legend.
Pricing: $38; $36 for seniors, QC alumni

Where/When: Queens Museum of Art (New York City Building), Flushing Meadow Corona Park, on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Master Artist Tenzing Rigdol will explain the intricate aspects of the genre and prepare you to create your own interpretive art and collages. The workshop is part of a collaborative piece for future display.

“Whatever Happened to the Holocaust”
Where/When: The Jewish Center of Oak Hills, 50-35 Cloverdale Blvd., Oakland Gardens, on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: You’ll learn why history is always relevant as you hear Dr. Arthur Flug, Executive Director of the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives, discuss how anti-Semitism exists in today’s world.
