Get Out: Little Shop of Horrors and Autumn Fest

Enjoy a great weekend with these fun activities all near your neighborhood.

Your knockout weekend begins tonight!
Meet “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show star Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez for happy hour Thursdays at Sugar nightclub. Or, pair off Friday evening for an old-fashioned round of square dancing at Alley Pond. But don’t worry, you can bring a partner or find one there.

Staying local? Celebrate the fall season Vietnamese-style at the Long Island Children’s Museum. And finally, attend a performance of the famed musical Little Shop of Horrors at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center and support your local talent. You’re bound to be impressed.

Where/When: Sugar Dining Den and Social Club, 246 Voice Road, Carle Place, on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Meet and greet Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez from Spike TV’s hit reality show The Ultimate Fighter. Bermudez will pose for photos and visit DJ Riz in the music booth.

Where/When: Alley Pond Environmental Center, 228-06 Northern Blvd., Douglaston, on Friday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Why Go: Learn to swing your partner to the basic steps of traditional square dance. Caller Jim Emory will help you get started on your Do-Si-Do. No partner needed. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Pricing: $12 members; $15 non-members; children ages 7-12 pay $8 each

 
Where/When: Queensborough Performing Arts Center at Queenborough Community College, 222-05 56th Ave., Bayside, from Friday-Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: This award-winning rock musical combines the best of the 60s and 80s. Join Seymour and Audrey inside an innocent looking plant shop for wild evening of fun. 

Pricing: Tickets are $10

 
Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City, on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the fall season in the Vietnamese tradition with festive lanterns and moon cakes and more. The festival will premiere a new play about the “Dragons & Fairies” folktales exhibit.

Pricing: Free with museum admission

 
Where/When: Community Church of Douglaston, 39-50 Douglaston Parkway, Douglaston, on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Why Go: Experience a unique jazz-folk visual art performance by an award-winning musicial family. The concert pays tribute to the works of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Pricing: $25 adults; $20 seniors; and $5 students
