Bayside Man Accused of Holding Girlfriend Hostage

Police say defendant kept the woman captive in his home for several hours on Saturday night.

A Bayside man has been arrested after he allegedly took his girlfriend hostage and refused to surrender for several hours, police said.

Athanasios Kakouras, who lives on 42nd Avenue in Bayside, is alleged to have been holding a gun while arguing with his girlfriend near his home around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Police responded to the scene and allegedly saw the defendant pushing the woman into the house, where is accused of keeping her captive for several hours before releasing her to hostage negotiators just before 2 a.m., police said.

The defendant was arrested on charges of assault and resisting arrest.
