Jerry Iannece is absolutely right. Any member of the Bloomberg Administration who senses anythingRead More that can be construed as criticism, screams "abuse and threats". What crybabies they are. In the 12 years that the Bloomberg Administration has been in power, they have ruined every part of the city, except for those who are billionairrs themselves.

They should not lower the standards for gifted and talented. 4 year olds are too young to be judgedRead More for the program.

IT'S ALWAYS " SURE, BUT NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!" Shame on Bayside residents! Every time thereRead More is an attempt to build a new school in Northeast Queens, residents find every imaginable excuse to prevent it. Inevitably, the proposed sites are then taken over by car dealerships, service stations, drugstores or restaurants giving, in fact, way to the heavy traffic, loud noise and all the other "doomsday" predictions initially voiced by the irate residents. Furthermore, when the quality of the nearby schools goes down due to overcrowding, resulting in devalued real property, the same residents that initially objected to the construction of a new building now appeal to their senator (who initially supported their objection) to do something about the school situation. The outcries become even louder when the prospect of busing our children to other, less crowded schools outside the community becomes imperative. Children and good schools bring energy and a vitality to neighborhoods. They are OUR children and they deserve to learn in a bright, clean, comfortable environment as close to their home as possible. The few moments of drop-off and pick-up do not create monumental traffic nightmares. The alternatives are far worse than those who object can imagine; and by the time these alternatives make their negative impact, it is too late. Senator Avella, who "slammed" the proposal, should reconsider his position and, on behalf of our children and our community, should champion the construction of new schools. Bayside needs more schools, not more car dealerships. The notion of "oh yes, but not in my back-yard" is selfish, stereotypical and hollow. We should know better for the sake of our children.
Cathie Black and Mayor Michael Bloomberg

I don't like the way Mayor Bloomberg is handling education. But, his biggest blunder was in hiringRead More the totally unqualified Cathie Black as schools chancellor. Did she believe that just because she is a woman, meant that all women would support her, regardless of how unqualified she is?

This is just plain stupid. All this is going to do is just produce low scores and stress everyoneRead More out and spend even more time in test preparation.

Everything around us is constantly changing. What never changes is the in pack the beacon programsRead More has on our children. Our children benefit from the program, more importantly look forward to attending the program. They have homework assistance, positive socialization, and on going activities WHY would this be taken away from our children. WHY??

In order to "open" 78 new schools, how many schools is he going to close? How many willRead More be "charter" schools?
