Swimming Prohibited at One Queens Beach, 10 on Long Island

The city has prohibited swimming in Douglaston, while concerns about unsafe levels of bacteria in the water prompted the closure of Long Island beaches.

The city has prohibited swimming and bathing at Douglaston Manor Association, a private beach in northeast Queens, due to suspected contamination by sewage or storm water runoff, the city's Department of Health said.

All of the city's 24 other beaches are open for swimming.

In Long Island, the Nassau County Health Department closed local beaches for the second day in a row after thunderstorms whipped through the area.

  • Creek Club                     
  • Lattingtown Beach               
  • Laurel Hollow Beach
  • Piping Rock Beach Club
  • Prybil Beach
  • Ransom Beach
  • Roosevelt Beach
  • Soundside Beach
  • Stehli Beach

If no other storms roll through the area, all beaches are anticipated to open Thursday.
