Watching the Olympics in Northeast Queens

Find out which local restaurants and bars are offering Olympics specials or screening the games.

The 2012 Olympic Games kick off Friday in London, but there are several places in northeast Queens to watch the games and enjoy food and drink specials.

Bayside's , which is located at 40-12 Bell Blvd., will screen all the games on its multiple TV screens. The eatery will offer several specials during the next few weeks, including $3.50 domestic bottled beers, $3 Jameson and Jaeger shots, 20 cent wings and two-for-one appetizer deals while the games are playing.


, located at 39-02 Bell Blvd. in Bayside, will show the games on its TV screens as well as host an Olympic decathlon drinking game at the bar. The decathlon's winner will qualify them for a grand prize, which is yet to be determined. Pries have not yet been set for the contest, which officially begins Friday.

, located at 42-15 235th St. in Douglaston, will play the games on its multiple flat screen TVs and will also offer specials, a spokeswoman for the restaurant said. The drink and food specials are still currently being finalized. Check back with Patch for updates.

Other spots in northeast Queens where you might be able to watch the games include , located at 39-31 Bell Blvd. in Bayside, and , located at 44-25 Douglaston Parkway. But you might want to check with these establishments for any Olympic specials.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
