Two Mets from 1986 World Series Hit Douglaston
Darryl Strawberry visits his namesake restaurant with relief pitcher Jesse Orosco.
The Amazin's were bumbling their way to an 8-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon, but northeast Queens proudly wore their Mets T-shirts, uniforms and hats while clutching photos, posters and baseball cards at Douglaston's Strawberry's Sports Grill.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the eatery's namesake - Darryl Strawberry - entered the building with his wife and brother.
Strawberry, who won the World Series with the Mets in 1986 and three other championships with the Yankees in the mid-to-late 1990s, was greeted with comparable admiration.

Orosco, a relief pitcher who retired the final batter during the 1986 World Series, joined Strawberry at the 235th Street bar and grill to greet fans and shake hands.
Marie Delgrosso and Doug Graham, a married couple from Westchester County, drove to Queens to see their idols and celebrate an upcoming wedding anniversary. They described themselves as the world’s biggest Darryl Strawberry fans.

"What he's been through is inspiring," Delgrosso said, referring to Strawberry's rehabilitation from drug addiction. "He's really nice and friendly. You meet a lot of stars who are not very nice."
Both former stars reported that they enjoy their post-baseball lives.
“I’m doing great,” said Strawberry. “I don’t have to deal with the media.”
