Douglaston Man Creates Clothing Line for Mets Fans

Darren Meenan Takes The 7 Line to Strawberry's on Mets Game Day

Douglaston native Darren Meenan roots for the Jets and the Knicks, but like many Queens natives, he’s a die-hard Mets fan.

Just recently, he decided it was time to try his hand at business and founded his company, The 7 Line.

Meenan brought an assortment of his T-shirts and hoodies, billed as “clothing for the fans, by the fans,” to Strawberry’s Sports Bar on Saturday for an opening day party that featured a private keg for his 40 of his closest friends who were the first to register.

It was the day after the Mets’ road opener - a loss that put them in the cellar on the first day of the season – but like any dedicated fan, Meenan was undeterred.

“It’s a beautiful day and a new season - Let’s go Mets,” he said.

The sports bar, festooned with memorabilia from Darryl Strawberry’s career with the Mets and Yankees, was the perfect setting for Meenan’s collection.

The graphics reflect the scrappy nature of the true Met fan - resolute in both victory and defeat as well as proud of Queens, Flushing and the team and wistful for the demolished Shea Stadium.

Later, after the tolerated Yankees cruised to yet another win, Meenan’s beloved Mets delivered what their beleaguered fans have come to expect. They fell behind, but fought back to a lead in the ninth inning.

Naturally, the team that earned the name “the cardiac kids” before Meenan was born did what they often do to their fans. But the Mets took the lead in the 10th inning and held on to win.

“I’m getting too old for this,” muttered one long-suffering fan, wearing a broad smile.
