Economic Development Corporation estimates event to bring in $191.5M for the city.

Citi Field will host the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, making it the ninth all-star game in history to be played in the city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

The mayor joined Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan H. Selig and Mets CEO Fred Wilpon Wednesday morning to announce that the game would be played in Queens on July 16, 2013.

The Mets first hosted the all-star game in 1964 at Shea Stadium.

“Next year’s all-star game is going to demonstrate once again that there’s no place like New York for world-class sporting events,” Bloomberg said. “Major League Baseball clearly recognizes this since they’re bringing the all-star game back to New York for the second time in just five years.”

A recent economic impact study by the Economic Development Corporation estimated that the game would generate $191.5 million for the city.
