What People Predict Will Happen To M.S. 158 Beacon

The agency that funds the Beacon School program at M.S. 158 has already announced that they can not longer afford it. But will the program be saved in any case?

Several who attended the rally to save the Beacon School at M.S. 158 this week seem to have been standing there with a secret: they believe its reprieve is likely, and even pre-planned.

The Dept. of Youth and Community Development has already issued a statement that the program was slated for closure 1.

But three sources Patch is in contact with have quietly told us that they predict the program, which only costs $334,000 to run each year, will be saved at the last moment.

"My prediction is that somebody is going to save the day at the end—this is all political jockeying," said one source, whose ties to a non-for-profit organization make overly political statements a liability.

But activist Tom Meara, who last year predicted the restoration of funds to, did go on the record with a prediction:

"I predict that the city council, led by Speaker Quinn, will once again stand up to the mayor and protect the working class people of our city by saving the Beacon
programs from being cut in the FY 2013 budget."
