UFT to Host Scholarship Dinner Dance on May 30

Six students will receive scholarship, while local administrators and teachers will be honored for their service.

The United Federation of Teachers and the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators will hold their annual District 26 scholarship dinner dance on May 30.  

The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Floral Terrace, which is located at 250 Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park.  

During the dinner dance, the UFT will hand out six scholarships to local students as well as honor several teachers and administrators from District 26 school.  

Joseph McKillop, of P.S. 159, will be given the Fourth Annual Alexandra Falabella Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship, while Adelina Aminou, of P.S. 178, will receive the Second Annual Jessica Martell Early Childhood Scholarship.  

The Third Annual Steven Petillo Elementary Scholarship will go to P.S. 133’s Joshua Kanatt and the Third Annual Fajir Javid Elementary Scholarship will be given to P.S. 266’s Devin Labosco.  

Ryan Kim, of M.S. 158, will be given the first-ever Principal James Ambrose Middle School Scholarship. And Christina Rowe, of John Bowne High School, will receive the Second Annual Sept. 11 Firefighter Henry Miller Jr. Memorial Scholarship.  

Five teachers will be honored for dedicating 30 years of their lives to teaching – P.S. 133’s Anne Leone, P.S. 31’s Darylle Brent, M.S. 216’s Helene Phillips, P.S. 31’s Kevin Revell and P.S. 266’s Suzanne Gurvitch.  

Grace Blangiardo, of M.S. 216, will be honored for 30 years of UFT paraprofessional service, while Sharon Stulberg will be District 26’s UFT retiree of the year.  

Parent Leadership Awards will be handed to Jeanette Segel, the president of Community District Education Council 26, and Kim D’Angelo, who is the president of the President’s Council for District 26.  

Two schools – P.S. 266 and P.S. 188 – will receive awards for educational excellence, while district Schools Superintendent Anita Saunders will be given a CSA Leadership Award.
