UFT to Host District 26 Dinner Dance on May 31

Scholarships will be given out to local students during event at Floral Terrace.

The United Federation of Teachers will host its annual District 26 scholarship dinner dance on May 31.

The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Floral Terrace, located at 250 Jericho Turnkpike in Floral Park.

Special requests for vegetarian or kosher meals should be included with the check. All tickets are non-refundable.

Scholarships that will be given out this year include ones for pre-kindergarten, early childhood, two for elementary school and another in memory of firefighter Henry Miller Jr., who died during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center.

This year’s Union Leadership Award will go to Denise Balabushka, who is the chapter leader at P.S. 203.

The Parent Leadership Award will be given to Cathy Cahn, a parent of students at P.S. 205 and M.S. 74.

Sandra March, a teacher member of the Teacher’s Retirement System, will receive the UFT’s 50-Year Member Award.

And the CSA 50-Year Member Award will go to Carole Nussbaum, principal of P.S. 203.

District 26 covers a number of communities in northeast Queens, including Douglaston, Little Neck and Bayside.
