Tell Us: Do You Agree with City Adopting More Challenging Standardized Tests?

Students in counties across the state have been boycotting Common Core standardized tests, according to a report.

Public school students across the five boroughs began taking new - and more difficult - standardized tests on Tuesday.

The tests adhere to national standards known as Common Core, which city Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said would better equip them with skills they need to succeed in college and careers. Common Core requires students to write more, think critically and defend their ideas.

But the Alliance for Quality Education released a statement that said the city was spending too much effort on testing, rather than learning, in the classroom.

And NY 1 reported Wednesday that students in counties across the state, including as many as 300 pupils in Rockville Centre, have been boycotting the new tests.

Patch wants to know: Do you agree with Walcott's defense of the new tests - that they will require students to think more critically and write more. Or, do you agree with the Alliance for Quality Education's assessment that the city should focus less on testing in the classroom?
