The United Federation of Teachers filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the city to stop more than a dozen school co-locations from opening, arguing that charter-school co-locations take away much-needed space from already-existing schools and has an overall negative impact on children’s education.

The move by the teacher’s union is in anticipation of Mayor Bloomberg likely planning to do another large sweep of co-locations before the end of his term on Dec. 31, The New York Post reported.
UFT President Michael Mulgrew believes the mayor is planning “dozens and dozens” more co-locations before he leaves office: “The mayor is trying to control beyond the time that he is mayor, and we’re not going to let that happen,” said Mulgrew.
