QCC's Slate of Fall Concerts Includes Soul Legends, Comedians and the Russian Ballet

Performing arts center's season kicks off on Sept. 30 with Dionne Warwick and wraps up on May 5 with The Spinners.

Northeast Queens residents will have a full slate of performances from which to choose this fall when ’s performing arts center kicks off its 2012-2013 season in September.

The center will host concerts by three pop legends from the 1960s and 1970s, stand-up comedy shows, plays and a dance performance.

Susan Agin, executive and artistic director of the performing arts center, said the upcoming season has an especially strong lineup.

“I am elated that we will have the privilege of playing host to some of the most influential, thrilling performers of our time,” she said. “No matter what your age, background or artistic taste, this dynamic season offers a magic experience for everyone.”

The season will begin with a Sept. 30 concert featuring Dionne Warwick, who will perform her hits, including “Then Came You” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?”

The second show of the season will be Pat Cooper and the Wise Guys of Comedy, which will take place on Oct. 7.

Tony Orlando, singer of “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree,” and special guest Elayne Boosler will play at the center on Oct. 14.

The Capitol Steps will perform its new show, “Take the Money and Run for President” on Oct. 21. The show, which combines music and comedy, will spoof the current election season.

Actor and “Saturday Night Live” alumnus Rob Schneider will perform stand-up comedy on Nov. 17.

On Nov. 18, the center will host “Broadway’s Elite in Concert,” which will include performances by Donnie McKechnie, Ken Page and Lee Roy Reams. They will sing numbers from a number of Broadway musicals, including “Cats,” “A Chorus Line,” “42nd Street” and “Hello Dolly.”

The comedy of errors “You’ve Got Hate Mail” will perform on Feb. 9. The show is centered around the world of online dating.

The performing arts center will host the “Black Stars of the Great Way” concert on Feb. 17. This show will include performances of music by Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and Eubie Blake as well as Norm Lewis, who is cast in the current production of “Porgy and Bess.”

The Russian National Ballet will perform on March 17, while The Hit Men – a musical group from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s – will play the center on March 23.

Duquesne University’s Tamburitzans, an Eastern European music and dance troupe, will take attendees on a tour through Bulgaria, Croatia, Russia, Greece, Serbia and Slovakis on April 7.

Singer and comedienne Charo will perform with Bill Santiago, creator of “Pardon My Spanglish,” on April 14.

Politician-skewering comedian Rich Little and 1950s vocal group The Freshmen will play on April 21, while Hal Linden and the Diva Jazz Orchestra will perform on April 28.

The performing arts center’s season will culminate on May 5 with 1970s soul legends The Spinners, who will perform their hits “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love?” and “The Rubberband Man.”
