Queensborough Launches Fundraising Program for Students

Community college's aim is to raise money for students interested in attending the school as well as QCC's existing cultural institutions.

Queensborough Community College publically launched a fundraising campaign Monday at for students who want to attend the Bayside school.

The goal of the college’s “Edge for Success” fundraising program is to bring in $25 million by 2015 to provide money for students interested in attending Queensborough.

Funds raised would also go toward the school’s existing cultural institutions, such as QCC Art Gallery, Queensborough Performing Arts Center and the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center.

Alisha Traille, a nursing student from QCC, said Edge for Success would assist students similar to her.

“Many students, like me, don’t have the option of going to private colleges but still very much want to excel academically,” she said.

Currently, the Edge for Success campaign has reached 85 percent of its overall fundraising goal, a college spokeswoman said.

A total 87 percent of the money raised so far is from the local community, she said.

Queensborough Community College is located at 222-05 56th Ave. in Bayside.
