Program Would Allow Bayside High School Students to Collaborate with Local Businesses

Computer programmers would be able to build a website for a local store, while art students could create logos and offer graphic design services.

Bayside High School students will get the opportunity for some real world experience with a new program that will place them at a local business for which they can help design a website.

The program, which would be part of the school’s internship program, would allow computer programming students to design Internet sites for local businesses as well as enable art students to provide graphic design services and create logos, said David Solano, the advisor to the school’s program.

“It provides students with the ability for higher learning and helping them get into the work force,” Solano said. “They could work as an apprentice. We want to connect the school with businesses that can provide meaningful internships.”

But Solano said local businesses could also stand to benefit from the arrangement.

“The company could gain a potential employee,” said Solano, who is also vice president of the Bayside Business Association.
