Photo of the Day: Spelling Bee Winner in Albany

Arvind Mahankali is honored by state legislators at the state capitol.

Arvind Mahankali, the M.S. 74 student who won the national Scripps Spelling Bee, was honored at the state capitol on June 18.

The eighth grader won the bee after correctly spelling "knaidel," a dumpling using matzo meal, egg and salt.

Earlier this month, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng met with Mahankali at a Rego Park diner, which named its knaidel in his honor. Prior to that, the Bayside student dropped by City Hall to speak with Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
