Law Pet Lovers Need to Know

Long Island attorney (general practice, federal and state, and animal law), and animal rescuer Carol Ryder conducts regular seminars "Animal Law for the Pet Lover", with the next one Thurs July 28, and can schedule one in your town-just call.

Subjects include animal ownership laws, rules and regulations, licensing, what to do when involved in a dog bite case, what to do if you purchase a sick pet (Animal Lemon Law), landlord/tenant laws regarding pets, the Americans With Disabilities Act and Service Animals, pets in elder facilities, veterinary malpractice, ways to economize on pet care and still get great care, balancing Western and Eastern vet medicine, animal abuse laws pending in Congress (NYS and U.S. Congress, federal and on Long Island), how you can adopt any breed and/or age you want, the animal abuse:human violence connection (incl. FBI info and the Gilgo Beach Serial Killer(s), what you can do to help animals in need even if you are super busy, in your spare time, Q&A and so much more. Reservations suggested but walk-ins welcome.

The seminar is complimentary BUT donations of blankets, towels and other linens (used but clean), as well as pet toys, for shelter animals, are VERY MUCH appreciated since shelter dogs lie on concrete, often suffering sores, unless volunteers bring (and clean) blankets to lie on and toys to occupy the lonely hours. Of course, monetary donations are especially appreciated and come in handy since we have massive veterinary bills-many rescues come in in very serious condition, often near death.

Note: Although library conference room closes 8:30, Q&As are welcome past that time (we have often been outside on a nice summer evenings (and even cold nights) having discussions with attendees)
