HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health Awareness Day at Nassau Community College

NCC will host its 21st annual event in recognition of HIV/AIDS Awareness Week. The program will include two memorial art exhibits, guest speakers and free HIV testing throughout the day.

Beginning at 9 a.m., audiences are invited to visit the field house and view an international AIDS memorial quilt display along with a photography exhibit entitled “The Care Givers.” Several community organizations will be on-site to provide information about outreach services during the exhibit. The college will also showcase the Museum of Sexuality and present works on marriage customs, dating rituals and pornography created by NCC’s human sexuality students.

Discussions will begin at 10 a.m., with international guest speaker and published author Scott Fried, of Talk AIDS, Inc., who will conduct an open dialogue on awareness about the disease. Fried will recount how he contracted HIV during his only unsafe sexual encounter.
