U.S. Service Academy Information Night for Queens and Nassau Students

Students interested in applying to a U.S. Service Academy can attend a biannual information forum at Bayside High School sponsored by U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Queens/L.I.). At least five military academies will be represented at the open session, where students and parents to meet with each school's representative. Congressman Ackerman's staff will also be in attendance to answer questions about requirements and the application process.

The nomination process to military academy generally involves members of congress nominating top high school student applicants from their district. Ackerman's nominees are chosen with help from a Citizens Review Board and a diverse panel of community leaders from the Queens and Long Island, which he represents. Students who are nominated must still compete for official entree to begin classes in Summer 2012.
