District 26 schools ranked highest in the city in Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott’s 2012 progress reports for elementary and middle schools across the five boroughs.
Seven of the district’s schools located in Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck received ‘A’ grades, while another seven were given ‘B’ grades.
The chancellor’s report included grades for 1,193 schools serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Grades were awarded based on student progress, performance and attendance as well as feedback from parents, students and teachers.
District 26 was ranked the highest in Queens and the borough was the best performing in the city.
“Our elementary and middle schools build on the foundation of early learning to set our students on a path for college and career readiness,” Walcott said.
Jeannette Segal, Community District Education Council 26's chairwoman, said the board was proud of the students in its schools.
"We are very proud of the children in our district and the hard work the students, parents, teachers and principals put into keeping our district on top," she said. "In these hard economic times where school administrators look to the parents for help to purchase books and programs to educate our children, it is critical for the education community to work together for continued success."
In the report, ‘A’ grades were given to Bayside’s P.S. 41, P.S. 46, P.S. 159, P.S. 205 and P.S. 213 as well as Oakland Gardens’ P.S. 203 and Little Neck’s P.S. 221.
Seven schools received ‘B’ grades, including Bayside’s P.S. 31, P.S. 162, M.S. 67, M.S. 74 and M.S. 158 as well as Little Neck’s P.S. 94 and Douglaston’s P.S. 98.
In nearby District 25, Bayside’s P.S. 130 earned an ‘A,’ while Bell Academy received a ‘B’ and Bay Terrace’s P.S. 169 was given a ‘C.’
The progress reports for elementary and middle schools compare schools to one another to determine grade, rather than set target scores that are use for high school reports.

District 26 covers Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Fresh Meadows, Bellerose, Floral Park, Queens Village and Oakland Gardens.
