CDEC 26 to Host Upcoming Meeting on Overcrowding, School Repairs

Board will discuss city's five-year capital plan at Nov. 21 meeting.

Community District Education Council 26 will hold a public meeting later this month to discuss crowded classrooms, school repairs and other district issues.

The meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 in room B44A at M.S. 67, located at 51-60 Marathon Parkway in Little Neck.

Representatives from the School Construction Authority will be on-hand to discuss the Department of Education’s capital budget plan and how it affects schools in the district.

Topics of discussion at the meeting include overcrowding, the need for school repairs and the lack of science, art, music and physical education classrooms.

The aim of the meeting is to mobilize the community for adequate school funding.

The city is preparing a five-year capital plan from 2015 to 2019 and is currently seeking data from school districts in order to determine levels of funding.

CDEC 26’s business meeting will follow the public meeting. Light refreshments will be served.

The board covers schools in a number of communities, including Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.
