CDEC 26 to Host Public Meeting on City's Capital Budget Plan

Residents will be able to discuss overcrowding and other relevant issues with School Construction Authority.

Community District Education Council 26 will host a public meeting on Jan. 24 to discuss the city Department of Education’s capital budget plan.

The meeting will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in room B44A at M.S. 67, which is located at 51-60 Marathon Parkway in Little Neck.

Topics of discussion at the meeting will include overcrowded classrooms in the district, the need for school repairs and a lack of science, art, music and physical education rooms.

Representatives from the city’s School Construction Authority will talk about the capital budget plan and how it affects District 26, which includes schools in Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Fresh Meadows, Queens Village and several other northeast Queens communities.

CDEC 26’s monthly business meeting will follow the public hearing. Light refreshments will be served.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
