CDEC 26 Seeks ELL Parent for Upcoming School Year

Board will also vote in its officers during Aug. 8 meeting.

Community District Education Council 26 will elect its officers during an Aug. 8 meeting in Bayside.

The group is also seeking an English Language Learner parent to serve on the board for the upcoming school year.

The board's business meeting, during which it will elect its officers for the 2012-2013 school year, will begin at 7 p.m. and be followed by a public meeting.

It will be held at M.S. 74, which is located at 61-15 Oceania St., Room 121, in Bayside.

The board also needs to fill its ELL parent seat before the beginning of the upcoming school year.

Once a candidate is selected, they will be provided with a personal translator for every meeting.

Those interested in pick up an application from the parent coordinator at their child's school or at CDEC 26's office, which is located in Room 128 at M.S. 74. For more information, email mmason@schools.nyc.gov.

ELL parents are responsible for providing assistance to school leadership teams, taking part in quarterly meetings with Parent Teacher Association officers, approving zoning lines submitted by the community superintendent and evaluation the superintendent.

CDEC 26 covers schools in Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston and several other communities in northeast and south Queens.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
