Bayside High School Soccer Player Named to MSG Varsity All-NYC Team

Lady Commodore D.J. Glazer is picked for scoring 40 goals this season.

A Bayside High School senior who was recently accepted on a soccer scholarship to Marist College has been added to MSG Variety’s All-New York City team.

D.J. Glazer, 17, who lives in Kew Gardens, was named to the team for her high number of goals scored and eight assists during this year’s season.

“I had 59 goals last year and 40 this year,” she said, explaining why she was chosen as one of MSG Variety’s players of the year.

Glazer said she has played soccer since second grade and trains all year round.

“My parents never tried to influence me to play soccer,” she said. “I was just playing in the park one day when I was younger and I liked it.”

The Bayside High School student played center this season, but was recruited to play as a defender at Marist College, where she has earned a scholarship.

“I’m very excited to be going to Marist,” she said. “It was my top choice.”

Joe Capuano, the athletic director at the high school, said Glazer was a great asset to the Lady Commodores.

“It’s an honor,” he said. “She was the only girl from the soccer team who made it. She’s a very versatile player.”

The Lady Commodores made it to the PSAL Class A quarterfinals.
