Some in Brooklyn Consider Queens

High prices are driving some long-time Brooklynites across the border.

Brooklyn may be the hippest of the outer boroughs, but it's become too expensive for many Gotham residents.

Enter Queens.

The New York Times reported recently that young families, the 20-something set and other long-time Brooklynites are crossing the borough border.

Now, they're not jumping in the deep end of the pool and landing in Forest Hills, instead taking the short trip to Ridgewood, but for residents of Queens, it's still interesting to note.

How expensive is Brooklyn?

The Times quotes a report compiled for real estate giant Douglas Elliman: Last month, the average monthly rent in northern Brooklyn rose to $3,035, up 8.2 percent from the same period a year ago.

The Brooklyn diaspora is driving prices up in Ridgewood, but compared to Brooklyn, well, it's a bargain.
