What Would a Weprin Win Mean for Northeast Queens?

Gov. Andrew Cuomo would set special election date for Weprin's seat if assemblyman bests Turner in Ninth District race.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo would need to set a special election date for David Weprin’s seat should the assemblyman defeat Bob Turner in the race for former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s seat, a spokeswoman for the city’s Board of Elections said.

If Weprin wins, the governor would make a proclamation to open the race for the Assembly seat, said Valerie Vasquez Rivera, the board’s spokeswoman.

The assemblyman would first need to resign from his current seat before Cuomo could set the date of the election.
