Councilman Mark Weprin, D-Oakland Gardens, will host two upcoming meetings during which he will introduce a program to allow northeast Queens to determine how city funds are spent.
At the meetings, Weprin will discuss participatory budgeting, which will allow residents to exchange ideas and work together to create proposals and, eventually, vote on which proposals should be funded.
Weprin said the program will enable local residents to designate $1 million in resources for the community.
The first meeting will be held at the Samuel Field Y, located at 58-20 Little Neck Parkway, at 7 p.m. on July 17.
That meeting will be hosted by Weprin and Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone.
The second meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on July 26 at the Fresh Meadows Library, which is located at 193-20 Horace Harding Expressway.
