Weprin Collects Firefighter, Gillibrand Endorsements

UFOA, UFA, senator give assemblyman the nod in the Ninth District special election.

Assembylman David Weprin, D-Little Neck, picked up some big local endorsements on Sunday when the Uniformed Fire Officers Association and the United Firefighters Association pledged to support his candidacy.

Weprin, who has spent the last month campaining for Congress across Brooklyn and Queens, sad he was thrilled to have the support of local firefighters and police.

In addition to the first responders' endorsement, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand put her weight behind Weprin, urging voters to support him at the polls Sept. 13.

"David Weprin is the right choice for voters because he will fight to protect Medicare and Social Security and work to get our economy back on track,” Gillibrand said. “David understands that the key to protecting the middle class is to fight against the Republican efforts to privatize Medicare and Social Security."

Weprin said he was pleased to have the junior senator's stamp of approval.

“I am honored to receive the support of Senator Gillibrand in my candidacy to represent the people of the Ninth Congressional District in Congress," he said in a statement.
