Weiner To Resign: Report

Congressman plans to step down after pressure from Democratic caucus builds.

U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner will step down from his position in Congress, according to a report in the New York Times.

Weiner, who revealed earlier this month that he had sent a series of lewd photos and messages to as many as six women across the country, reportedly has told House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of his plan to resign.

Weiner plans to address the media at a senior center in his district at 2 p.m.

In Forest Hills, constituents weren't waiting for the Congressman's announcement to let their opinions fly.

Resident Bernadette Jackson made it clear in no uncertain terms that she thought Weiner needed to go.

"Grill him up and put him on the bun," she said.

Some, like constituent Matthew Connolly, didn't feel the Congressman got a fair shake.

"Democrats should have stood up for him," Connolly said.

Constituents also took to social networking to talk about the scandal, including Twitter user @lizwood1982, who said, "I don't care what [Weiner] does with his personal life. But I do care that it's screwing with my district!"

There has been intense pressure on Weiner to leave his seat since the revelation, with everyone from Pelosi to .

It's unfortunate because Weiner did many good things for Queens. He had no choice because his effectiveness would have been neutralized. D. Byrnes

Daniel, his effectiveness will not be neutralized if he decides to hand in there. I feel he made the wrong decision to resign. Somebody should run a background check on congress and i assure you they will find worse than what Weiner has done. Weiner is a human being and, as such, is open to mistakes like the rest of us humanbeings. The democratic party should have stood behind, not defend, but stood behind him. Now our destrict will suffer. If they are waiting on a vote from me next year, they will wait until donkeys fly. That Nancy Polosi is a work. I'm so turned off and disgusting of it all.
