Vallone to Reignite Campaign as Peralta Drops Out

Dems endorsement of Katz sets off flurry of activity.

Last week, the Queens Democratic Party endorsed Melinda Katz for the Borough President's office, after weeks of speculation.

That endorsement started a political avalanche that has already claimed two entrants — Barry Grodenchik and now Jose Peralta.

Peralta announced he would be dropping out because he failed to get the party nod that Katz had accepted, according to the New York Daily News.

That leaves four candidates running for the seat — City Councilmen Peter Vallone Jr. and Leroy Comrie, state Sen. Tony Avella and Katz.

Vallone is spending this week relaunching his campaign with a series of events throughout the borough, starting in his home turf in Astoria Monday night. The events are designed to galvanize supporters and begin the signature-collecting that will secure him a place on the ballot.

Vallone also enjoys a significant fundraising advantage over all of his remaining opponents.
