Paul Vallone, who has replaced Dan Halloran as northeast Queens' city councilman, was sworn in before Bay Terrace residents and leaders on Jan. 4 at P.S. 169.

Hundreds of Vallone's supporters, family members and friends packed into the auditorium of the school for the ceremony, which was led by Warren Schreiber, who is president of the Bay Terrace Community Alliance.

“Today’s celebration is an overwhelming affirmation of my commitment to bring every federal, state and local leader to our district and to unite our cultural, ethnic, civic and neighborhood groups as one proud community for the whole city to see," Vallone said.

The ceremony included a singing of the "National Anthem" by Catena Vallone and Sofia Luetich and a poetry reading by William Liao, a fourth grader from P.S. 203.

Elected officials to speak during the ceremony included City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James, U.S. Reps. Steve Israel, D-Great Neck, and Grace Meng, D-Flushing, as well as Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.

The new councilman was sworn in by his father, Peter Vallone, who was the former speaker of the City Council.
