Turner to Run for Senate: Report

Ninth District Congressman will take on Gillibrand, Politico says.

Well, that sure didn't take long.

, U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, is reportedly telling local Republicans that he'll be taking on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the fall.

Politico reported this morning that Turner, , will take on Gillibrand instead of running for a second House term in a possible new district.

If Turner — — had planned run where he currently lives, he would have been in a race against U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-Jamaica, in a very different demographic area.

Politico published a statement from Turner, who said his plan is to continue the important work of righting the U.S. economy, now from the Senate.

"I will travel to the Republican State Convention in Rochester later this week and humbly ask for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. I will respectfully ask for the Conservative nomination a few days later at that Party's convention. I have made my intentions known to the other Republican candidates in this race," Politico quoted Turner.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
