Turner Eyes Queens GOP Chairman Position: Report

Outgoing congressman could try and unite fractured Queens conservatives.

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, may only have a few months left in Washington D.C., but he could be thinking about extending his time as a heavy-hitter on the local political scene.

Turner was quoted in the New York Post Thursday saying he might have an interest in the chairmanship of the Queens Republican Party, vying to replace current Chairman Phil Ragusa.

In 2010, Turner was a retired cable executive who decided to get involved after watching a Fox News interview with then-Congressman Anthony Weiner.

Just eighteen months later, he was being sworn in as the first Republican Congressman from NY-9 in nearly a century.

Turner's seat was almost immediately carved up in the redistricting process, prompting a doomed run for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

What do you think? Could Turner unite Queens Republicans? Or is this a fool's errand? Tell us in the comments.

A fool's errand for a fool.

He has bucked the ONE PARTY system. The Liberal Democrats almost have NYC in their pockets and know there is not much you can do about it!
