Rozic Hosts STAR Exemption Workshop

Hundreds of residents drop by Flushing event to enroll and register.

State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, D-Fresh Meadows, hosted a STAR exemption workshop and registration drive this past weekend for residents in her district.

The assemblywoman was joined by the state's Department of Taxation and Finance and the city's Department of Finance to explain the various exemption programs, eligibility, guidelines and registration process.

"I want to ensure that our homeowners receive the tax relief that they are eligible for and that they deserve," Rozic said.

As a result of new legislation, homeowners who had been receiving basic STAR benefits must re-register with the state.

"Whether you are a primary homeowner, veteran or senior, if you qualify for an exemption, we want to make sure you get the benefits you are entitled to," said Beth Goldman, commissioner for the city's Finance Department.

Hundreds of residents from Rozic's district dropped by the assemblywoman's Flushing office event to register and enroll.
