Romney May Visit Queens, Says Bayside GOPer

While some prominent Queens Republicans support Romney, Councilman Dan Halloran rallied for Ron Paul.

Gov. Mitt Romney may make a stop in Queens, says former GOP Assembly Candidate Vince Tabone.

Tabone, who lives in Bayside, spoke with the presidential aspirant, during his Feb. 28 victory party in Michigan. He was on the trip with several other New York City GOPers, including Queens Party Chairman Phil Ragusa.

“The party chairman implored him to visit the boroughs,” said Tabone. The former Massachusetts Governor then purportedly told the mixed group of Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens Republicans, “I’m going to be in New York and I’m going to try to visit each and every one of you.”

A call to Romney's campaign office to confirm the candidate's travel plans has not yet been returned. If Romney does visit Queens, he’ll have a receptive audience with Tabone, who called Romney, “the strongest most coherent candidate.”

Tabone’s friend and Councilman, Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone, seems not to agree.

Photos of Halloran attending a Get Out The Vote event for Ron Paul Rally on Bell Blvd. were displayed on the Councilman’s facebook page on Saturday.

Halloran ran for the District 19 council seat with the endorsement of the Libertarian Party, as well as on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and lines.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
