Quinn's Attorney Says Attack Ads Are False, Illegal

Quinn's campaign lawyer says cable stations running attack ads could lose their licenses for what they consider to be false advertisement.

Not even 24 hours after a coalition of independent activists launched a television ad attacking Democratic mayoral candidate Christine Quinn, her campaign's lawyer has asked cable television stations to stop running it, NY1 reports.

The commercial, which was created by NYC Is Not For Sale, accuses Quinn of being on the wrong side of the aisle on key progressive legislation, such as the living wage, term limits and sick leave bill.

Quinn’s campaign handlers responded to the ads almost immediately with a letter, pointing out that in regards to term limits, she passed the measure. They asked Time Warner Cable and Cablevision to pull the ad, warning the stations could lose their license for false advertisement.

"You're not allowed to just put up false ads that have incorrect information about candidates," said Quinn. "That's simply not what you're allowed to do in an election context and we're making that clear to the news media out there. It's also just wrong for there to be anonymous ads out there. They have no place in our system."

Time Warner Cable says that Quinn's letter is under corporate review.
