Queens Rep Loses Home to Fire: Report

Massive Breezy Point fire claims home of U.S. Rep. Bob Turner.

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, was one of the more than 80 Breezy Point residents who lost their homes in a fire that tore through the neighborhood last night, according to Crain's New York.

Turner and his wife reportedly got out of the home safely, though the home, like most others caught up in the fire during Hurricane Sandy, was a total loss.

In a press conference this morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the fire "terrible" and said "the winds were just devastating, blowing it from just one building to the next one."

Turner currently represents Forest Hills in Congress, though he lives in and represents Breezy Point, as well. His term of office ends in January, when he will be replaced by either Democratic candidate Grace Meng or Republican Dan Halloran.

We will update the story as more information becomes available.
