Per Bet, Bloomberg Hangs Steelers Symbol Over Fifth Ave. Library
Mayor makes good on 'painful' football wager
Mayor Mike Bloomberg proved yesterday that gambling, for mayors, is a nasty vice.
Bloomberg yesterday hoisted a “Terrible Towel,” an emblem of the Pittsburg Steelers, over the main branch of the New York Public Library, on Fifth Avenue.
Pittsburg Mayor Luke Ravenstahl official website gloated over Bloomberg’s payout on between the two mayors over the outcome of the New York Jets Jets vs. Pittsburg Steelers last month.

Had the New York team won, Ravenstahl would have had to do likewise, hanging a Jets Fireman hat on a landmark of his city.
Instead, the New York Jets lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-19 during the last playoff game. The Steelers will face the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl in Dallas on Feb. 6.

“For the record, this is painful, and I do not plan to do this next year,” said Bloomberg, adding, “I wish I didn’t have to do this. But the Jets fans always pay their debts off.”
The act was filmed, and posted on the Mayor’s You Tube Channel.
Per the terms of their bet, Bloomberg also assembled care packages for members of the National Guard who have recently returned home to Pittsburgh—while wearing a Steelers jersey.
The care packages included items like gift cards for gas or groceries, are to help ease the service members’ transition back home.
Bloomberg isn’t the only other mayor Ravenstahl has bested in a football bet. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake had to don a gold-and-black Steelers jersey in a recorded You Tube message pronouncing the Steelers superior to the Baltimore Ravens, after that team fell to Pittsburg.
She also promised to send Ravenstahl a tray of crabcakes.
