One Week to Go: A Primary Primer

What do you think of the candidates in local elections so far.

New York's Primary Day for federal offices is June 26 — that's one week from today. As important as voting is, you can't walk to your polling place without information. 

With that in mind, we've put together the 2012 Primary Primer, a look at some of the stories that will impact how the voting will go down next Tuesday.

So far in the new Sixth District, A few weeks ago we asked you for your thoughts on the relative strength of the candidates. Currently, Grace Meng has pulled way out in front.

Assemblyman Rory Lancman hasn't been afraid to call out in the race. He's also not afraid to if it . 

Dr. Robert Mittman, who entered the race later than most, has put some ideas out there and concentrated .

City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley is getting short shrift from some Forest Hills voters, but she's definitely kept up her current gig while running for Congress,

The Sixth District isn't the only primary you'll be voting in come Tuesday. The Republican Party will have a primary to settle the question of who's running against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the fall.

So far, U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, is ahead of George Maragos and Wendy Long. Will that lead hold for the last week? And does the winner stand a chance against a popular incumbent like Gillibrand? Let us know what you think.

A sad comment on the quality of our political system. I would not pick them to be a dog catcher. However we will be stuck with one of them. Except for Mittman they are all hacks and he has zero qualifications. Are we to pick the best of the worst?
