Not So Fast, Weiner: Quinn Leads New Poll

City Council speaker regains lead in new poll.

Siena College and the New York Times released their latest poll of New York City's mayoral campaign and it was a whole lot of good news for City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, D-Manhattan.

Despite trailing by single-digit margins in many other polls, Quinn held a nine-point advantage over Anthony Weiner among Democrats.
“With the support of more than one-quarter of Democrats, Quinn has a significant nine-point lead over Weiner, her closest competitor," said Siena pollster Steven Greenberg. "Thompson and de Blasio, barely in double digits, and Liu behind them have substantial ground to make up over the next eight weeks if they want to make it into what appears to be a near-certain runoff after the September primary."

Greenberg stopped short of calling Quinn a lock for the run-off, but said Siena's polls indicated she had a big leg-up.

Quinn received the support of 27 percent of those polled, compared to 18 percent for Weiner. Bill Thompson, Bill de Blasio and John Liu were all left picking up the scraps in their wake.

The poll also indicated that Weiner was the candidate that voters felt they'd heard the most about — his unfavorable rating was 15 points higher than his favorable.
