Northeast Queens Senator Joins NYC Education Committee

Toby Stavisky will tackle local schools as part of new senate subcommittee in state Senate.

Queens schools will have yet another legislator fighting for them, this time in Albany.

The New York State Senate's Committee on Education has formed a new subcommittee dedicated exclusively to New York City schools and northeast Queens legislator Toby Stavisky, D-Whitestone, will be joining it.

Stavisky, who was already a member of the Senate Committee on Education, was a New York City public school teacher before her time in government.

State Sen. Joe Addabbo, D-Howard Beach, is also a member of the Senate Committee on Education, so the borough is well represented. 

Acccording to Capital Tonight, the committee will be directly involved in any state-level matters that would impact city schools.

The committee would also be of importance when mayoral control of city schools comes up for another vote in 2015.
