New York Introduces New Online Voter Registration System

Cuomo unveils system that will allow voters to register from home.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled an online voter registration system on Thursday that allows New Yorkers to register from their own computers – and soon from new electronic devices at Department of Motor Vehicles offices, according to the New York Post.

Newly registered voters can even cast ballots in next month’s primaries if they register and enroll in a party online by Sunday. Friday is the in-person deadline at DMV and Board of Elections offices, says the Post.

To register, applicants need a driver’s license or a nondriver’s identification card, and can log in to my.dmv.ny.gov.

GOP political consultant Jack Cookfair told the paper that the new online registration system could help Democrats by mobilizing new voters in New York, a traditionally blue state.

“Any time you go out of your way to make it easier for people to enroll, it has a tendency to hurt Republicans. The bigger question is motivating them [newly registered voters] to actually vote.”

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
