David Weprin Bill Seeks to Prevent Gas Price Gouging

Two state lawmakers want to prevent dishonest gas station owners from inflated prices.

Gas prices are soaring, but local lawmakers want to make sure you’re not getting ripped off at the pump, too.

CBS News reports that Assemblyman David Weprin and State Senator Eric Adams and have introduced legislation to prevent price gouging, such as watered down gas or inflated prices.

Specifically, the legislation will require all gas stations in New York State to post signs near gas pumps listing contact information for the Consumer Protection Board, the article says, as well as requiring more spot checks at gas stations, and new laws to make the penalties for gouging even tougher.

“Unscrupulous owners are taking advantage of the public not knowing what the actual price should be,” Assemblyman Weprin told CBS News.
