Event will be held with Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley at Maspeth High School.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng, D-Flushing, and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, D-Middle Village, will hold a forum for veterans in Maspeth on July 15.

The forum, which will be for veterans who live in Queens, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Maspeth High School, located at 54-40 74th St.

The event is designed to help Queens veterans access benefits and services that are available to them through various government agencies, such as healthcare options, education and training opportunities, mental health counseling, disabilities benefits, home loan and housing programs, pensions, employment assistance, life insurance, new resources for female veterans, compensation benefits and assistance with transitioning from military to civilian life.

“We can never thank our veterans enough for all the sacrifices they’ve made for our nation and we must do all we can to ensure that they have access to the benefits and services that they require,” Meng said. “But a lot of Queens veterans are unsure how to access those resources and many are unaware that they even exist.”

The forum will include a presentation by representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and information tables from more than two dozen organizations that serve Queens veterans, including the Queens American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America Queens Chapter 32, Holliswood Hospital, Hope for the Warriors and many others.

“The men and women of the United States armed forces risk their lives to defend our freedoms,” Crowley said. “When they come home, their services can never be forgotten and they deserve the best healthcare, education and employment opportunities our country and city have to offer.”
