Korean American Group Endorses Shafran for Council, Liu for Mayor

Group also picks Stringer for comptroller and Lancman for City Council.

Korean Americans for Political Advancement has announced its endorsements for Councilman Dan Halloran's seat as well as for mayor, comptroller and James Gennaro's Council seat.

The group, a non-profit that aims to build support in the Korean community for progressive politics, has picked Austin Shafran, formerly of Empire State Development, in the race for Halloran's seat.

KAPA backed city Comptroller John Liu's mayoral bid as well as Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer's campaign for Liu's seat.

And the group threw its weight behind former state Assemblyman Rory Lancman in his bid for Gennaro's City Council seat.

“Our endorsements are the final result of a rigorous process throughout which we focused on the substance of candidates’ positions,” KAPA President Bright said. “We are confident that these candidates are the best choices for Queens and for the city.”

Keep an eye out on Patch for more endorsements as the Sept. 10 primary approaches.
