Jefferson Democratic Club Celebrates Election Wins, Holidays

Group Celebrates 100 Years, Honors Carrozza Representative at Annual Party

A steady stream of notables, locals and well-wishers flowed through the Jefferson Democratic Club's recent holiday party to celebrate this year's electoral successes and honor Eugene McSweeney for his service to northeast Queens.

McSweeney, a longtime-representative for retiring Assemblymember Ann-Margaret Carrozza, D-Bayside, received an Assembly Citation from Community Board 11 chairman Jerry Iannece, who praised his long years of service to the community.

"Gene," as he is known to a multitude of friends, could be found all over the district at gatherings, conveying messages from constituents to Carrozza, who conveyed her regrets at being unable to attend the event.

Braunstein will be taking up Carrozza's seat, representing a swath of northeast Queens including Bayside, Douglaston, Glen Oaks, Little Neck and Whitestone. Avella unseated 38-year incumbent Frank Padavan.
