Iannece Voted In For Fifth Term as CB 11 Chairman

Long-time chairman calls on board to come up with candidates for next year when he is term-limited out of the seat.

Jerry Iannece retained his post as Community Board 11’s chairman during the group’s annual election Monday night at Bayside's M.S. 158.

Christine Haider was voted in again as first vice chairwoman of the board, while Dennis Novick held on to his second vice chairman position. Laura James will remain third vice chairwoman.

“Thank you, I think,” Iannece said jokingly to the board after being voted in for his final year as chairman.

But he called on board members to begin thinking about who should lead the group for the following year. Iannece will be term-limited out of the board’s top position for next year’s election.

“It’s a labor of love,” he said. “And you’re a great board. But we should start thinking about who will take up the reigns after me.”

Board member Janet McEneaney said she believed the board should send advance notice on who planned to run for the seats at upcoming elections.

“I got a notice saying there was an election tonight, but I wasn’t told who was running,” she said. “For 2014, I’d like to have some advance notice on who’s running.”
