'Holiday Embargo' Halts Street Construction on Bell

The DOT has revoked permits for sidewalk and street construction through the holidays.

Construction work on Bayside's main throughfares has been banned through the holidays.

The Department of Transportation last week suspended most permits for street and sidewalk construction across much of the city, including along Bell Blvd., between Northern Blvd. and 35th Ave,  as well as the entire span of Northern Blvd.

The Holiday Embargo began yesterday, and will continue through 11:59 pm on January 2.

The agency issued notice of  eight gridlock alert days between now and the ban's lift date.

The DOT hopes the construction embargo will ease traffic through the holiday season.
